About Us

Welcome to Mangy Kitchen, a collection of our cherished family recipes passed down through generations. From comforting classics to modern twists, each dish tells a story of tradition, love, and flavors most relished by our Pereira and Suares families.

Hailing from the sun-kissed coastal town of Mangalore in Southern India, our cuisine is a vibrant fusion of flavors, thanks to the many communities that call our city home. It's no surprise that food continues to be an integral element of every family gathering; after all we express our love through food.

I'm Jean, the curator behind Mangy Kitchen. My mother Veera had an innate talent for cooking. Her French Toast, Chicken Sukka, and Mangalorean fish curries were simply irresistible; one taste was never enough. When she passed, I was overjoyed to discover dad had some of her recipes written down.

As I moved away from Mangalore, I was left longing for the comforting flavors of home. I turned to my dad and Maizy aunty  for guidance with the basics. I earnestly wrote down recipes for tomato saar, jeere meeri chicken curry, dal and even theil piyao vegetables.

Little did I know that my cousins scattered across the globe still shared the same love for Mangalorean food as well. Growing up in Kuwait, our tastes are quite influenced by the Middle Eastern cuisine, nevertheless, we  are as 'Mangy' as can be!

As I often flipped through pages of my handwritten book to share recipes, the idea came to life -  'Mangy Kitchen', a digital platform where our family's food legacy can be shared and preserved for generations to come. From often reminiscing about the delectable dishes lovingly prepared by our aunts and uncles, we now relive the warmth and nostalgia by cooking in our own kitchens.

So, whether you're a beginner seeking comfort food or a seasoned cook craving inspiration, we invite you to enjoy a glimpse into the Mangalorean culture and a little sneak peek into our family from the food we love.
