Curried Mince (beef or mutton) - Jean

Ingredients:
500 gms mince
1/2 cup frozen green peas (see notes)
1 large onion (finely chopped)
1 tbsp ginger paste
1 tbsp garlic paste
4-5 tbsp tomato paste
1 medium potato (small cubes)
2 tbsp curry powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp chili powder 
1 1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp turmeric powder 
1 1/2 tsp salt 
2 tbsp ghee
1 tsp vinegar *Optional

Steps:
  1. Heat ghee. Add onions and garlic. Saute till onions turn golden brown.
  2. Add ginger paste and garlic paste. Fry till the raw smell goes, about 2-3 minutes. 
  3. Add the mince and fry on medium heat till brown. Break the mince down into tiny pieces while browning.
  4. Add tomato paste, combine with the mince and continue frying for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add salt and spice powders, followed by the potatoes and green peas.
  6. Cook on simmer for 10 minutes, then add 1/2 - 1 cup hot water according to desired consistency. Continue cooking covered on simmer for 20 minutes.

Notes:
Variations:
  • Add 5-6 cloves of finely chopped garlic when frying the onions.
  • Add vegetables like zucchini, mushrooms, corn or frozen mixed vegetables.
